Activités de Recherche:     
Jean Lorquin, PhD. Age 55. IR1. Chevalier de l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques (enseignement). Belongs to the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD). Microbial and plant physiologist in the past, general microorganism biochemist, and organic chemist trained at Montpellier (ENSCM, chemistry school, and later). Worked in the private sector for a time as head, and currently develops new substances and processes, partly with industry (pharmaceutical, cosmetic). His time at INSERM Montpellier (2 years) and his early postgraduate degree in pharmacology have strongly influenced his work. Historically, Jean Lorquin is heir to projects on nitrogen fixation, and worked for more than 12 years with Bernard Dreyfus at the IRD, in which he published noteworthy results on the identification of Nod factors specific to stem and root nodulation.
Present position: Structural and Metabolic Biochemistry Platform of UMR-7294 (MEB team) Teach at the ESIL Engineering School (ESIL), in a Professional Bachelor’s degree course in Microbiology for the Agrifood Industry, and in a Master’s degree course (antioxidants and polyphenols).
Research and development: (1) Metabolism of halophilic bacteria and phenolic compound degradation/transformation, free-radicals, biotechnology and processes (cosmetics/pharmacy industries, new antioxidant agents), (2) identification and biological activities of toxins/secondary metabolites from corals and dinoflagellates (new antimicrobial/antitumoral agents), (3) Separations and Mass spectrometry.
