Activités de Recherche:     
Sophie Bonnet is a marine biogeochemist at the MIO (Marseille/Noumea) with a strong interest on the role of phytoplankton in the marine carbon cycle, and a focus on marine dinitrogen fixation. She gained her PhD degree from the University of Paris 6 (France) in 2005, and performed her postdoctoral research at University of Southern California Los Angeles (USA). Since she was hired at MIO in 2007, she develops specific tools involving isotopic tracers, cell sorting by flow cytometry and mass spectrometry at the nanoscale (nanoSIMS) in order to understand ‘who does what’ in the mixed planktonic ecosystem. She has coordinated several research projects as a PI, involving from 10 to 80 international scientists. She is currently the PI of the VAHINE project for which she recently received the starting grant from the French National Research Agency (ANR) and co-PI of the OUTPACE project (ANT, INSU, IRD, GOPS, CNES). She is the co-head of the scientific team CYBELE (25 people CYBELE: Cycles biogéochimiques et rôle fonctionnel des assemblages de micro-organismes planctoniques) within the MIO. Finally, as a permanent researcher in a French Research Institute, she regularly supervises PhD, Master and undergraduate students, as well as engineer staff in laboratory and field experiments.
